I have friends who insist that specific sandwiches aren’t what they should be unless made with the best possible bread, otherwise they’re not done right, and the bread also must be freshly baked by the sandwich maker “or a baker who bakes specifically for them.

Aficionados of Po Boys, Philly Cheese Steaks, Ruebens, and ‘authentic’ Parisian style ham and cheese baguettes can be persnickety about their favorites,

All of this is prelude to my having had a particularly enjoyable sandwich, a torta in fact from Kahlovera in Meadowmont one of a list of several appealing house sandwich options. I chose their Milanese influenced by need for a sandwich-of-the-moment…fried chicken.

The sandwich was the house marinated, chicken breast, lightly breaded, seasoned and fried. What made the sandwich noteworthy were the add-ons/beans, Mixed greens, fresh Oaxaca cheese, chipotle Mayo, pico de Gallo. While eating it, I became conscious of the freshly baked presence of the bread, the torta. The sandwich was complete.

I don’t drink soda pop and find iced tea to inconsistently mixed, so seeing they had house made Aqua Fresca I opted for a very tall, very refreshing passion fruit. Oh yeah.
