A Saturday Lunch @ Pizzeria Mercato

I absolutely love the pizzas at Pizzeria Mercato, but other items make me come back again and again … the excellent entrees they call piatti and wonderfully creative desert creations foremost among them. They also do well by soups and salads. This warm bean salad is an example of the understated style that defines their dishes.
Above is one of today’s piatti, a perfectly breaded and seasoned chicken piccata. It has just the right amount of everything— capers, greens, vinaigrette and best of all, flavor.
On my very first trip to Mercato, I was tempted by one particular item on the desert menu — the cannoli with pistachios and candied orange. They instantly became my all time favorite cannoli. The pastry chef has consistently produced fine creations. The pistachio biscotti cake caught my attention on this visit.
